Christopher Kane & Alexander McQueen Tribute

It was an explosion of neon today as Scottish designer Christopher Kane unveiled his Spring/Summer 2001 collection.

US Vogue editor Anna Wintour and model Amber Le Bon were among those who headed to an east London warehouse for the eagerly anticipated event.

And Kane certainly didn’t disappoint, his ninth line, which was themed around ‘an aristocrat gone bad’, included everything from lace, to leather, to graphic prints and even neon vinyl.

Even the model's staggering high heels were in neon shades.

There’s been so much white and minimalism, I just reacted against that. I don’t want that. I don’t see that as being modern. To me, I think it’s old and used,’ he told reporters after the show.

The designer’s use of fluorescent shades of green and pink certainly brightened up a sombre day which saw Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Campbell take a break from London Fashion Week to attend a memorial service for the late Alexander McQueen at St Paul's Cathedral.

The fashion world later queued up to pay tribute to the designer who began his career with an apprenticeship at Savile Row tailor's Anderson & Sheppard.

Kane’s show was held shortly after the ceremony with Wintour and Dazed & Confused magazine editor Jefferson Hack managing to attend both.

‘I basically just have a bowl and just throw everything in it,’ said Kane. ‘Because it’s such a long season, you kind of get brainwashed early on, so you need to really be focused and just be open.'

Highlights from the collection include his laser-cut leather pieces and neon lace dresses.

But it was the traditional embroidery, unmissable colours and attention to detail which made the collection one of the week's stand-outs .
