DRESSED TO KILL WITH VERA WANG

Vera Wang had an unusual inspiration for her spring collection this morning at NYFW: Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill.” There was a sort of Eastern vibe in a few details like obi belts, and maybe something arm orlike in the quilted mini-vests, but beyond that it felt like Ms.Wang was pulling our legs!!

Otherwise, she was working a nice sportswear vibe for day with a lot of interesting new pants, including a paper-bag waist style, She is continuing to push the dropped-crotch style of harem pants, as well, so that trend doesn’t seem to be going away, but something new was a blouse that was so emphatically ruched that it looked like curtains being raised at a theater to reveal a midriff of tulle. Another trend: rope belts. We’ve seen them at Joseph Altuzarra and Diane Von Furstenberg, among others, and now Ms.Wang had her models tied up in knots.

For evening, the look was architectural, with deep folds in the front or sides of dresses, as in a red satin number that had such a deep fold in front that a person could conceivably cart around groceries or a small child — or perhaps even a weapon if worn by Uma Thurman.
