Bora Aksu:
If creepy-crawlies arn't you thing, then you would be well-advised to give the avant-garde designer, Bora Aksu's spring/summer 2011 collection a miss.
The collection included models dressed as giant ants, with complicated, twisted, ruffles, piping and padding outlining fashion impressions of the head and abdomen of the little insects,on body-con dresses.
To complete the inspiration, Aksu asked his aunt in Izmir, Turkey, to hand-crochet nearly two dozen, six-inch, woollen "ants", which were used as decoration in the models' hair.
I was intrigued by the shapes and the padding and the mix of spiky and hard. To me, it sort of suggested 1950s underwear, so I worked that into."
The "ant dresses" came in a mix of black, grey, and red, patchworked in tulle, silk and brocade, with organic stretch and padded inserts. Weird, leggings, in black and beige cut-out lace, to represent swarms of ants, and spike-heeled shoes completed each outfit.
